Photon Engineering is pleased to announce the release of FRED Optical Engineering Software v23.10.
New Features Summary
New Charts
The charts in FRED have been updated to a newer technology (LightningChart) to include more features, faster analyses, and more responsive behavior
- New Chart Navigator pop-out to set custom max/min chart scaling and increase / decrease text font sizes etc.
- Dynamic rescaling of axes in the charts
- “Info Window” pop-out displaying information such as total power and ray counts
- “Dark Mode” / “Light Mode” settings
- Improved Save / Load functionality for customized chart styles
FREDmpc Library Updates
The libraries used by MPC (GPU raytracing), have been updated to the latest version which results in much greater stability amongst a wide range of cases.
General Updates
- A new Gaussian scatter model has been added and supports anisotropic scatter and super-gaussian parameters for modeling flat-top-like profiles seen in engineered diffusers
- The Zernike surface has been expanded to 231 terms (20th order)
- Detector Entities now print summary data (total power and ray counts) to the output window at the end of a trace
- Detector Entities now support Incident/Absorbed power tracking in the same way as other geometry surfaces
- The Isolation feature has been expanded to include options to add and remove objects from a current isolated view
- Ray Filters now include Total Internal Reflection (TIR) events
- Ray Filters can now use parent Custom Elements and Subassemblies to group child surfaces
- Glass Catalogs of Hikari, Hoya, NHG, and Sumita have been updated
